After receiving his clinical training with specialization in Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Freiburg, Germany, and at the Center of Children’s Care and Adolescent Medicine, University of Freiburg, Germany, Dirk Bassler completed a clinical fellowship at the Department of Pediatrics, Perinatal-Neonatal Medicine, of the McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada, where he supplemented his license with a degree in Neonatology. In 2006 he became a consultant pediatrician at the University Children’s Hospital Tübingen and headed the Center for Pediatrics Studies (CPCS) as its director.

 

He studied clinical epidemiology at the Cochrane Center in Freiburg, Germany, and enhanced his knowledge at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics of the McMaster University in Hamilton, where he achieved a Master’s degree in Health Research Methodology (HRM).

 

Dirk Bassler has extensive scientific experience in clinical research, amongst others as Principal Investigator in international randomized control trials in Neonatology. He is an expert for study methodology and for compiling systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

 

He was awarded his Venia Legendi (‘Habilitation’) in 2009 and held an extraordinary professorship at the Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, Germany, since 2011. In February 2014 he was appointed Professor of Neonatology at the University of Zurich and took over the directorship of the Neonatology Clinic of the University Hospital Zurich
